其一，就资金而言，普通家庭是难以支付的，不少家长为了孩子能够出国留学，能够更好地成才，千方百计地多方筹措资金而七拼八凑、砸锅卖铁，使家庭出现了经济拮据，生活水平急剧下降的状况。前段时间的《中国教育报》就报道了这样一则新闻：有对夫妇为了凑足孩子到加拿大深造的每年十多万的费用，不惜变卖了房子和小轿车，举家迁往乡下偏僻的地方居住，天天只能粗茶淡饭，最后还欠了一大笔债。
